1:1 O happy ray, Holy Stephen,
who was worthy of apostolic preaching,
pray to Christ for the stability of the holy church.
You who willingly took upon yourself to suffer stoning,
being graced by God to share in the torment of Christ,
that you might teach us also to glorify the Holy Trinity:
1:2 You prayed that they would stone you first among the martyrs,
so that you might receive reward from the good Creator of all,
and now we pray that you might also be for us an intercessor:
